We Must Avoid Legalism

Legalism is where you try to add man-made rules into the Bible, and legalism is a dangerous sin. Galatians 3:3-4 warns against legalism. Since legalism is where you try to add man-made rules into the Bible, legalism is simply a works-based salvation. There are a lot of legalistic cults out there, some infamous examples of legalistic cults are the Hebrew Roots Movement, 7th Day Adventists, Sacred Name Movement, KJV-Onlyists, Jehovah's Witnesses, etc.

Legalism Promotes A Works-Based Salvation

One thing that all of the legalistic cults have in common is that they all teach a works-based salvation, I also want to point out that I am not an antinomianist, and I’m pointing this out because the term “works-based salvation” is commonly misused by antinomian preachers when they falsely accuse genuine preachers of heresy. Legalism promotes a works-based salvation since legalism is attempting to add man-made rules into the Bible. Legalism is easily refuted by Ephesians 2:8-9, Colossians 2:16-17, Matthew 15:11, Galatians 3:3-4, Mark 7:18-19, Romans 6:14, Romans 14:13-14, Romans 14:5-6, Ephesians 2:15-16, and many other verses. Works are not required for your salvation. All you have to do to get saved is to repent and trust alone in Jesus Christ. It does not require any work to repent of your sins. Since the word repent means a change of mind, to repent of your sins means a change of mind towards sin and then you turn away from a life of sin in favor of following Jesus Christ.

Trying To Force Personal Convictions Upon Others Is Legalistic

We shouldn’t try to force our personal convictions against things that are moral gray areas upon others, because it is legalistic to do so. For example, I feel convicted against taking the covid vaccine, and at the same time, I do not try to force my conviction against taking the covid vaccine upon others, because it is legalistic to do so. We also shouldn’t condemn other Christians just because they don’t have the same personal convictions as us, because it is legalistic to do so. The legalistic thing that the people in the Hebrew Roots Movement and the Sacred Name Movement do is that they condemn other Christians who choose to celebrate well-known holidays like Christmas, Halloween, Valentine’s Day, etc. It is legalistic that they do this because well-known holidays like Christmas, Halloween, and Easter are moral gray areas and rather Christians celebrate well-known holidays like Christmas or not is not a salvation issue, because Christians are not going to go to hell for celebrating well-known holidays like Christmas, Halloween, and Easter.

Legalists Are False Convert

Among the phony “Christians” there are 2 different groups which are the lukewarm side and the legalistic side. The lukewarm side is the side that has 1 foot in the Church and 1 foot in the world. The lukewarm side promotes sinfulness. For example, the fabricated doctrine of once saved always saved is a lukewarm heresy because the doctrine of once saved always saved says that you can continue to live a life of sin and still be saved, and because of this, once saved always saved is a damnable heresy because you cannot continue to live a life of sin and still be saved, and once saved always saved is easily refuted by the entire chapter of Romans 6, and Romans 6 is speaking to the Church today. The legalistic side is the side that tries to add man-made rules into the Bible. For example, the Hebrew Roots Movement is a legalistic cult because they teach a works-based salvation, and they try to add man-made rules into the Bible.

Conclusion

In conclusion, we must avoid legalism, because legalism is leading many people to hell, and legalism is very insane. We should also watch out for legalistic people as well because there are a lot of people on the internet who try to force legalistic ways upon others, and if someone tries to force legalistic ways upon you, then just ignore him or her or try to convince him or her that they are being legalistic. If you choose to try to convince the person that he or she is being legalistic and If the legalistic person does not listen after you tried to convince them in 1 comment or post that they are being legalistic, then just ignore them after that, because we should not argue with other people. We should not argue with other people because the Bible says that we should avoid foolish disputes.
